As I write this I have just returned from
the Annual ICPC Training Seminar in Spokane Washington. One of the
greatest assets in being there, besides the training, was the opportunity
to meet chaplains from not only North America but around the world.
While I was there I took the opportunity to meet
with both the out-going and in-coming presidents to discuss what
CPCA is and where we are going along with our relationship with
ICPC. With the help of Charlie Massey, I believe that we have made
some good inroads to a better relationship. I also met with the
new Executive Director and he sees us in a different way than his
predecessor. Our conversations will be ongoing. I will be working
to have ICPC recognize our certification and also our letters of
endorsement for those who want to join ICPC. I can see some benefit
to dual membership.
Here in our country we have about 300 chaplains
but just over a third belongs to our organization. If we are to
continue to grow and to provide leadership, it is essential that
we reach out to those who work with our police officers, yet who
have not joined. In an attempt to do this and provide a better link
to our members I have proposed a format for Regional Directors for
CPCA. The executive will discuss this before the annual ATS and
I want to bring it forward at our Annual Meeting. This would hopefully
allow us to reach others and as well provide a regional link for
chaplains. I ask that you keep this idea in your prayers and also
I ask for your prayers for the executive as we strive to plan and
work for the betterment of chaplaincy.
Our Annual ATS is coming quickly. The overview
I received from Charlie and Jim Turner in Spokane showed me that
we have an excellent seminar planned. Registrations are coming in
early and we are receiving several requests from American chaplains
to join us. Our training is well done and by using our members and
local resources we can ensure that chaplains receive high calibre
training. I look forward to seeing a large number in Vancouver.
I look forward to renewing friendships and meeting new members of
CPCA.
The work of chaplains can be demanding and time
consuming and I keep all of you in my prayers.
Sincerely
Stan Fraser.

Bien fraternellement,
Stan Fraser.
HEROANS
When you talk to young girls these days about
their role models, very few mention a chemist like Madame Curie,
or an astrophysicist and astronaut like Sally Ride, or a zoologist
like Jane Goodall. Instead they look to someone like Madonna, whose
inspiring achievement in life is to parade around in her underwear.
And people wonder why the country is in trouble.

PRAYER PERMISSION REQUIRED
SYDNEY, Australia (EP)-- Federal law now restricts
Australian churches from using the full names of members on their
prayer lists without specific permission. Deputy privacy commissioner
Timothy Pilgrim told the Daily Telegraph said (sic) that the law
encourages churches to check with people before disseminating a
prayer list. Anglican Bishop Roger Herft said that the law restricts
churches’ attempts to comfort the ill and encourage a ‘family’
atmosphere. “It would seem to me that the Privacy Act, if
it is not used sensibly, can contribute to the biggest disease of
mankind and that is loneliness. People can feel completely left
out of the loop if we are not careful,” Herft told the Telegraph.
WHO NEEDS GOD?
What is the difference between a person who relies
only on himself and one who has learned to turn to God for help?
The atheist is like a bush growing in the desert. If he has only
himself to rely on, when he exhausts his internal resources he runs
the risk of running dry and withering.
But those who turn to God are like trees
planted by a stream. What they share with the world is replenished
from a source beyond themselves, so they never run dry.

In Who Needs God (Summit)
ONE. Give people more than
they expect and do it cheerfully.
TWO. Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you
get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any
other.
THREE. Don't believe all you
hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.
FOUR. When you say, "I love
you," mean it.
FIVE. When you say, "I'm
sorry," look the person in the eye.
SIX. Be engaged at least six
months before you get married.
SEVEN. Believe in love at first
sight.
EIGHT. Never laugh at anyone's
dreams. People who don't have dreams don't have much.
NINE. Love deeply and passionately.
You might get hurt but it's the only way to live life completely.
TEN. In disagreements, fight
fairly. Please No name calling.
ELEVEN. Don't judge people by
their relatives.
TWELVE. Talk slowly but think
quickly.
THIRTEEN. When someone asks you a question you
don't want to answer, smile and ask, "Why do you want to know?"
FOURTEEN. Remember that great
love and great achievements involve great risk.
FIFTEEN. Say "bless you"
when you hear someone sneeze.
SIXTEEN. When you lose, don't
lose the lesson.
SEVENTEEN. Remember the three
R's: Respect for self; Respect for others; Responsibility for all
your actions.
EIGHTEEN. Don't let a little dispute injure a great
friendship.
NINETEEN. When you realize you've made a mistake,
take immediate steps to correct it.
TWENTY. Smile when picking up
the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.
TWENTY-ONE. Spend some time alone.

O God, we remember this morning those whose
pain will not go away:
pain of body, pain of mind,
pain of happiness snatched from them,
pain of potential unrealized,
pain of recollections that still torment.
God, let us look to your kingdom
where there is no more pain.
We remember those whose guilt will not go away:
guilt because of things they have done,
or things they didn't do;
of things they wished they'd done,
or wished they'd never said,
guilt real or guilt imagined.
God we look to your kingdom,
where the past is forgiven.
We remember those who are filled with fear:
fear of what the future holds,
fear for themselves or fear for others,
fear of the imagined threat,
fear of sudden memory.
God, let us look to your kingdom
where all fear will be banished.
Let us remember that here,
in the midst of pain and guilt and fear,
there are those struggling
to ease pain, and ease guilt, and eradicate fear.
Let us give thanks for all those who are neighbours
to us in our need and care for others in their distress,
and let us look forward to your kingdom where there
shall be an end to death and to mourning and crying
and pain, where to old order is passed away.
AMEN
